NISPED is an educational and training institute that initiates and conducts projects in the areas of socio-economic development and peace. Its focus is on civil society: the voluntary, people-centered, non-governmental groups and organizations concerned with conflict-resolution and the advance of sustainable human development. NISPED focuses on societies undergoing transformation. It works with societies moving from conflict to conflict resolution; from dictatorship to democracy; from poverty and dependence to self-hood, from societies with disenfranchised minorities to societies that extend full human and civil rights to all, and with societies that work toward sustainable human development. It works internationally with developing countries, regionally with Palestinians and other countries in the Middle-East and in Israel, focused on cooperation between Jewish and Palestinian-Arab citizens of Israel.
